how to make money with songs

During my time as a professional musician I have learned tricks of the trade and there are things emerging artists should know. the first and most important is the product, a good quality recording will stand out and be more accepted by the public and corporate powers at work. there are many recording programs for apple and pc available and they all have pretty good cd quality recording available, my advice is know your software. In the links section you will find links to popular software, you can have the best software and still produce a bad product by not knowing how to use it. The writing is important try to write for the largest segment of he population and write from the heart. Enjoy what you do it will show in the final product

Join a writers guild

If you want to make the most out of the possible income join Ascap or Bmi they will help you to copywriter your product and collect royalties I joined as writer and publisher, this way if any content is duplicated I can collect off of the other artists sales.

Make arrangements with a distributor

with the advent of Mp3 audio and web distribution the benefits of this relationship is paramount I used CD baby for 56 dollars I had the music cds put on the web for digital distribution I sell on 20-30 web sites and sell physical cds on several. most of my income comes from digital distribution from overseas. When you get into such a relationship it will put you on several websites which directly pay your distributor and you get a check in the mail.

Promote

when all is set up offer your music for digital sale to as many sites as possible (read the fine print) many sites will distribute your music without you paying anything but you are eligible for payment there are some scams out there so be careful.

Playing Gigs is also a useful way to market your songs and get paid to do so. I suggest making professional CDS and selling them at the gigs. I used Discmakers and make 100 at a time it is less than 300 bucks and they are pressed CDS. The cost of making them by burning CDS on your computer is relative but the final product from a pressed cd is radio ready. the burnt cds are not accepted at radio stations for airplay.

Call your local radio station see if they will play your songs. I have been on many stations for interviews and live performances. If you are going to send a press pack then be creative, I used a package that said fresh fish and it was answered. Just remember these guys at the stations get hundreds of CDS a week and 99.9 percent hit the trash can or are given away and never heard.
